A Line in the Sand

by Gerald Seymour

Gerald Seymour is a writer at the top of his game. Everything about his books screams quality. His plots, charcterisation, descriptions; everything is beyond reproach.

He writes about world events very much in the present: what could be more topical than the revenge of Iran on a man who, a few years previously, took their WMD program back years? There's only one thing difficult to believe in this plot: our hero's reaction that he is being targeted. Yet the decision he makes is at the heart of the book; it is the premise on which the whole plot rests. As such, this is the classic 'what if?' moment beloved of science fiction, or in this case, psychological thriller writers.

From here on, it's classic cat-and-mouse between our hero and MI5 versus Iran and the inevitable assassin from Hell. It's superbly written, but there aren't fathoms of charcter develoment beyond immediate reactions to events.

Highly recommended!
